Our Drop Ins & Community Cafes

Welcome to our food bank page, it is our pleasure to be able to serve and support you.  The Food Bank is run by a network of local churches throughout East Kilbride and our volunteers are here to help and support you in any way we can.

Here are a list of the Churches who have drop in sessions where you can collect food parcels, enjoy a cup of tea or coffee, and a chat with one of our friendly volunteers.
We have Food Banks throughout East Kilbride and we would encourage you to attend the one closest to your home.  We will also signpost you to local provision of further support where possible.

Food Bank Times

Please note, during lockdown, we did deliver in more extreme cases. This was a response during the crisis, however we are not able to sustain this service long-term. There may not be an option to deliver food parcels, so please ensure you are able to visit or send someone to your local collection point - There are six locations available over five days, operating from Sunday to Thursday.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you need a referral to access our food bank?

No, we work on a self referral basis.  All you need to do to access help is attend one of our drop ins listed above.  The only criteria we have is that you stay in East Kilbride or Strathaven, please bring proof of address when registering.

How often can I visit the food bank?

We will provide you with food for as long as you need it. All we ask is that you do not collect food from more than one Drop In per week and only take a bag when you need it – As we rely fully on food donations from churches and the community this lets us make sure that we have enough for everyone in need.

What will I receive when I visit the food bank?

We will provide you with one or two bags of food depending on the number of people in your household.  We can also provide you with one hygiene bag per month and one cleaning bag per month, subject to donations.  Some of our drop ins also have surplus food from Tesco, Greggs, Nandos, and Aldi available, subject to availability.

What’s in a typical food parcel?

A typical food parcel contains a minimum of three days of nutritionally balanced, non-perishable, tinned and dried foods that have been donated by the local community. A typical food parcel includes: breakfast cereal, soup, pasta, rice, pasta sauce, noodles, baked beans, tinned meat, tinned vegetables, tinned potatoes, UHT milk, tea, tinned fruit, tinned dessert and biscuits.

Can the food parcel be adapted to special dietary requirements?

We can usually adapt your food parcel to suit your dietary needs. Just let them know when you register and we will do out best to accommodate your needs. We can provide specific parcels for a range of needs including people with diabetes, gluten intolerance, vegetarians and halal. We will also endeavour to adapt your parcel to accommodate any food allergies you indicate.

I have a baby, can you help with supplies of nappies and baby food?

Our foodbank usually carries a small stock of nappies and baby foods, please let the foodbank know when you arrive if you need additional items for your baby. We don't always have these available at the drop ins but can arrange to get them for you the next time you visit.

What if I can’t get to one of the Drop Ins?

We are generally unable to offer a delivery service.  If you are unable to attend one of our drop ins due to mobility needs or are unwell, then you can arrange for someone to pick up a parcel on your behalf. If this isn't an option please get in touch with us to discuss further options.

Planning your Visit

A Warm Hello

Thank you for visiting our website. At the very heart of Calderwood Baptist Church is our faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. We believe that Jesus Christ shows us what God is like and how we can have a relationship with God. And we believe that the only way to have this relationship with God is through Jesus' death and resurrection, which provides forgiveness and life to all who believe. It is our desire to share this life transforming news with people throughout East Kilbride and further afield.

Whether you're looking for a church or are interested in exploring Christianity, we hope you'll connect with us and begin to explore the good news about Jesus Christ. We are a church where you can connect with us and find a welcoming and loving community with a desire to serve you. We are a place where you can explore Christianity and find out who Jesus is and what it means to follow him. We are a church where you are invited to belong to our family who are united by our faith in Jesus and our trust in his saving death.

We are also a church that loves our community here in East Kilbride so we have a variety of ministries that seek to serve our community - information about these is included in our website. If there are other ways that we can serve you, please do reach out to us.

We look forward to welcoming you soon.

Connect

Our Sunday services are a great way to connect with us and to begin your journey of getting to know us as a church and getting to know who Jesus is. You'll also get the chance to meet different people, some who have been Christians for a long time, some who are quite new to faith, and others who are still exploring. We really do our best to make everyone welcome!

You can also connect with us through a number of mid-week ministries that we run for our community and through our coffee shop, Hunter House Coffee Shop.

Explore

At Calderwood, our desire is to know Jesus Christ and to make him known. Everything that we need to know about our Lord Jesus Christ is found in his living word, the Bible. So we take the Bible seriously, we read it and listen to it so we can hear what God is saying to us. If you would like to explore who Jesus is and how he came into the world to rescue us, we'd encourage you to read a bit of the Bible with a Christian friend.

We would be happy to give you a Bible and direct you to some good places to start. We'd also be happy to connect you with a Christian who would be happy to read some of the Bible with you. This is a great way to explore the Bible, discuss it, and hear how it has changed someone else's life.

Belong

When we belong to Jesus Christ, we also belong to his family, the church. The church is a global family who are united by their belief in Jesus Christ as their Saviour and Lord. As a local church, we seek to live as family at Calderwood Baptist Church. Entrance into this family comes through faith in our Lord Jesus and our desire to live with Jesus, for Jesus, and according to his word. As a church, we extend an invitation to belong to Christ's family as we make him known and invite people to respond to the significance of Jesus in their lives. We practice baptism as a sign of our faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, and we take membership of Christ's church seriously as we seek to live together as a community of grace.
