Community Care Update

Food Bank

Highlights:

We are thankful to God for his provision that we have still been able to provide during a time when many food banks are really struggling, despite reduced donations we are still able to meet the rising need and haven’t had to cut back on what we provide
We are thankful for all the volunteers who continue to give of their time and energy so faithfully, celebrated our volunteers at an Appreciation Afternoon Tea earlier this year
So far this year we have distributed 6701 bags compared to 5258 same period last year
Currently distributing across 6 drop ins on average 740 bags a month (14% increase on last year), approx. 620 households, 850 adults and 250 children a month
We are encouraged that a couple of our clients have started reading word one to one, a few have been coming along to Sunday services, continue to pray that God will move in their lives

Focus:

Training for volunteers on communication, having good conversations and sharing their faith
Introducing tools to help enable better conversations with clients

Prayer:

For more opportunities to share the gospel, boldness in sharing. That we would be lights for Jesus in our community
Real transformation in our clients lives and in their hearts
Strength and energy for our volunteers, for continued compassion and wisdom on how best to support the clients practically and emotionally

Jobs Club

Continuing to support those in our community who are looking for work every Friday 10am-1pm, although numbers have been low. Please pray that people will hear about what we are doing and will come along so they can benefit from the support, please share that it is available among people you know that may benefit. Pray for the team as they seek to support individuals and that they will build relationships with those attending.

Hunter House

Highlights:

Introduction of the team of Relational Evangelists. They are now active 3 or 4 days throughout the week in the coffee shop. Please pray for the team (Sharon, Stan, Drew, Elaine, Sebastian & Cathy) as they build and deepen relationships and look for opportunities to share their faith.
Morgan Edwards starting as a supervisor has been a wonderful encouragement and support to myself and the rest of the staff & volunteers.
More books and resources available to purchase from within the coffee shop

Focus:

There has been a change in staff over the last month so we will be looking at staff/volunteer resource needed

Prayer:

Please pray for the Christians who do serve within the coffee shop that they would be a witness in the way they serve and interact with those who aren’t.
Pray for wisdom as we look at staffing resource and pray for an increase in volunteers

We believe that Jesus Christ shows us what God is like and how we can have a relationship with God. And we believe that the only way to have this relationship with God is through Jesus' death and resurrection, which provides forgiveness and life to all who believe. It is our desire to share this life transforming news with people throughout East Kilbride and further afield.

We are a church where you can connect with us and find a welcoming and loving community with a desire to serve you. We are a place where you can explore Christianity and find out who Jesus is and what it means to follow him. Connect

Our Sunday services are a great way to connect with us and to begin your journey of getting to know us as a church and getting to know who Jesus is. You'll also get the chance to meet different people, some who have been Christians for a long time, some who are quite new to faith, and others who are still exploring. We really do our best to make everyone welcome!

Explore

At Calderwood, our desire is to know Jesus Christ and to make him known. Everything that we need to know about our Lord Jesus Christ is found in his living word, the Bible. So we take the Bible seriously, we read it and listen to it so we can hear what God is saying to us. If you would like to explore who Jesus is and how he came into the world to rescue us, we'd encourage you to read a bit of the Bible with a Christian friend.

We would be happy to give you a Bible and direct you to some good places to start. We'd also be happy to connect you with a Christian who would be happy to read some of the Bible with you. This is a great way to explore the Bible, discuss it, and hear how it has changed someone else's life.

Belong

When we belong to Jesus Christ, we also belong to his family, the church. The church is a global family who are united by their belief in Jesus Christ as their Saviour and Lord. As a local church, we seek to live as family at Calderwood Baptist Church. Entrance into this family comes through faith in our Lord Jesus and our desire to live with Jesus, for Jesus, and according to his word. As a church, we extend an invitation to belong to Christ's family as we make him known and invite people to respond to the significance of Jesus in their lives. We practice baptism as a sign of our faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, and we take membership of Christ's church seriously as we seek to live together as a community of grace.
